Enseignement scientifique & technique - ECO_4MO13_TP : Economics and technology of financial innovation

Domaine > Sciences économiques et sociales.

Descriptif

In this course we study the economics of platforms as a key ingredient of the digital economy. In the first part of the course, we study the concept of network effects. We define platforms and build a typology. We discuss their usefulness and different business models. We learn about pricing strategies of monopolist and competing platforms, discuss how a platform can grow and explore non-pricing strategies. In the second part, we apply this knowledge to specific types of platforms (search engines, P2P, etc.) and discuss their related properties. Finally, we discuss the ex ante or ex post regulation of these markets.

Méthodes pédagogiques

I use a hybrid teaching method that includes a final project at the end of the course and emphasizes student interaction throughout the semester. This approach is similar to the concept of a ""flipped classroom,"" where traditional lectures are minimized in favor of more interactive activities, discussions, and hands-on learning. During class, I encourage students to actively participate in group work, peer-to-peer collaboration, and problem-solving exercises. This fosters a dynamic learning environment and encourages students to engage with the material in real time. The final project serves as a comprehensive assessment of their skills and understanding, allowing them to apply what they've learned in a collaborative and practical way. This blended approach not only promotes active learning, but also provides multiple touch points for assessing student progress and understanding.
