Informations pratiques – visa
To study in Brazil, a Student Visa is needed. The temporary visa – Vitem IV – will be granted to undergraduate and graduate students, including those participating in sandwich PhD programs (with or without scholarship). Contact the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate in your country to find out about the procedures. In most cases, the following documents are requested:
- Passport valid for at least 6 (six) months from the intended date of entry in Brazil;
-
- 2 (two) visa application forms filled out, dated and signed by the applicant;
- 2 (two) recent photographs, front view with light background;
- Non-criminal record statement to be obtained by you at the local authority of your country. The document must have been issued less than 3 (three) months before your arrival;
- Letter of Acceptance or letter confirming the vacancy reservation issued by UFRGS OR a document proving (with Education Ministry recognition) that the student is already enrolled in the educational institution, mentioning the duration of the course;
- Declaration of scholarship indicating 700,00 € (seven hundred Euros) to be received monthly, as well as the duration of the scholarship;
- Those who do not have a scholarship must prove their financial capacity OR that their parents can provide financial support to make monthly transferences of at least 700,00 € (seven hundred Euros) throughout the students’ stay in Brazil. In the case of parents being responsible for the maintenance of the student, a letter from the bank testifying the capacity of the monthly transference must be presented;
- Medical assistance insurance coverage valid in Brazil;
- Payment of repatriation to the country of origin, made by an insurance company Nationwide, covering the entire students’ stay;
- Tax payment.
Other documents may be required. Contact the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate in your country to find out about the procedures and vaccinations.
When you arrive in Brazil, certain documents must be arranged (such as CPF, Cartão TRI). Also, you need to regularize your stay in Brazil at Federal Police. It is important be financially prepared to pay some taxes because of these bureaucratic procedures when arriving in Brazil.
Documents
Besides the fundamental documents for international travelling – such as the passport – we advise you to bring a document with your parents names (father and mother are mandatory). This is necessary because in Brazil parents names are a criteria to differentiate two people who have the same name. When a procedure for a legal document (such as your Cartão TRI) is required, it is necessary to attach a copy of this document containing your parents names. This document can be a driver’s license, an ID, a military document, a birth certificate, among others (even if the original is not in Portuguese).
Informations pratiques – hébergement
