- “Undergraduate (Special Auditing Students) required to register minimum 12 TU credits/semester. If the special auditing students engage in research activity under the supervision of a professor, the students are able to obtain 5 TU credits/semester as “IRT lab (A/B)”, and the workload is equivalent to 20 classes/week.”
- “Graduate (Special Research Students) There is no specific workload requirement for the students on this scheme. The students also may take courses upon their request. TU will not issue any credits to Special Research Students (except COLABS students) for research activities in TU.”
- Tohoku University basically takes two semester system; fall semester and spring semester. Credits the students should take depend on their departments.
One of the features of the School of Engineering, Tohoku University is that even undergraduate students belong to the labs and do research works as well as course works.”

・Personal Accident Insurance for Student Pursuing Education and Research "GAKKENSAI"
This is an accident compensation insurance covering unforeseen disasters and accidents during
regular curricular activities, school events, extracurricular (club) activities, and while on the university premises. Please note that illness and natural disasters such as earthquakes are not covered by this insurance.
・Comprehensive Insurance for Student Lives Coupled with "GAKKENSAI" for International Students ("Inbound futai-gakuso")
This is a comprehensive insurance policy covering liability, injury, illness, rescuer expenses, death and residual disability. Only students who are enrolled in ”GAKKENSAI” are eligible for this insurance.
