The medium of instruction at Bilkent University is English. Students may present results from one of the recognized international exams or take Bilkent University’s own Proficiency in Academic English (PAE) exam upon arrival and registration. Students who cannot meet proficiency requirements are required to attend the English Language Preparatory Program.
Recognized external exams and required scores are:
IELTS – 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 on each section
(IELTS score sheet should be sent directly from the test center to Bilkent University)
TOEFL iBT – 87 in total
(TOEFL score sheet should be sent directly from ETS to Bilkent University – CODE: 0620)
External exam results should be within their two-year validity period at the time of registration.
The Bilkent University School of English Language reserves the right to check the validity of exam results and not to accept a result.
Turkish Courses
“Survival Turkish” course is offered during the orientation week. “Basic Turkish I and II” courses are also offered
during fall and spring semesters with credits (3 Bilkent, 5 ECTS credits)

Bilkent offers free on-campus accomodation for incoming exchange students
Subject to availability, this offer is valid for double rooms at Bilkent’s student dormitories. Students are
expected to file their requests before the relevant deadline. Allocations are on first-come-first-service basis.
Room type may differ based on availability.

Students coming from the countries, which are exempted from the visa requirement to Turkey, do not have to apply to the Turkish Embassy/Consulates for any type of visa and may directly come to Turkey with their passports. Residence permit application will be made during the Orientation Program.

Informations pratiques – tuition fees
Tuition fee for the 2024 – 2025 academic year (including 10% VAT):
– For students admitted before 2023 is 16,300 USD
– For students admitted in 2023 is 16,950 USD
Students, who will send their tuition fees from abroad can make a wire transfer to the bank account of Garanti Bank provided below. During the process, the student’s name and surname must be stated and the document showing that the wire transfer has been made, must be sent to the Registrar’s Office.
The annual tuition fee is paid in two equal installments, before Fall and Spring semester course registrations, by the deadline in the academic calendar.

In line with the Higher Education Council’s Regulation for Admission from Abroad, students who are eligible to register at Bilkent University and had acquired Turkish citizenship at birth but later renounced their citizenship status with the approval of Ministry of Internal Affairs, are required to pay the tuition fee for the students admitted from abroad even if they have the legal document which grants their previously acquired citizenship rights as stated in the citizenship law. Turkish nationals, who complete their secondary education in a foreign country are also required to pay the tuition fee of the students admitted from abroad.
Students admitted to Bilkent University through transfer application, are also required to pay the tuition fee of the students admitted from abroad, if they have not registered to their previous institution through central placement
