Descriptif
In this course we study topics of competition policy and regulation in the digital economy. We first characterize distinguishing features of the digital economy like network effects and their consequences for market structure and the market outcome. We then turn to typical topics of competition policy: collusion, M&A, abuse of dominance and vertical restraints, with applications to the digital economy. For this, we look at current cases decided by the European Commission. Finally, we move to topics of regulation in the digital economy, starting with classical regulations of the telecommunications industry and current topics, such as net neutrality, privacy regulation, and the role of data in competition policy.
